National Express Coach believes that the health and safety of its employees and customers is a key priority equal in importance to any other corporate priority.
The Driving Out Harm programme encourages employees to make sure that their workplace is safe and that they put the safety of customers and colleagues first at all times.
The programme is supported by training and internal marketing activity including posters, pledge cards, training booklets and brochures. It has its own brand for use at internal events and training programmes.
Every employee pledges to follow the Golden Rules of safety. There are role-specific Golden Rules for different jobs.
For example, the Golden Rules for Customer service team as follows:

Target Zero was launched with the aim of reducing the number of responsible fatalities down to zero.
It is an internal safety campaign that highlights to all drivers and NX staff, some of the different factors that cause or contribute towards an accident.
Target Zero means zero responsible fatalities.
This is a target for the entire Group. For every country. For every division. For every depot, garage, office and station. For every individual.
Your safety and security as a National Express employee will always be a priority. The HOT procedure will support you when dealing with unattended baggage.
HOT stands for Hidden, Obvious, Typical, and these principles will help keep you, your colleagues and your customers safe.
Think about Terrorism!
All terrorists need to plan and prepare for an attack. They prefer not to be seen or will assume a different identity.
An apparently innocent visitor or customer may test our security procedures to see how effective they are. They may leave a bag behind to test our reactions.
It is essential that we ensure that we deal with all instances in a speedy and professional manner.

We require you to cooperate with the management of the Company in order to achieve legal compliance and to meet our own health and safety standards and safe working procedures.
You are reminded not to take risks, which could affect your own or other people’s health and safety. You must also ensure you report any accidents or “near misses” – see the “what’s dodgy” section below.
Any breaches of Company health and safety policy or standards can result in disciplinary action against you, up to and including dismissal. Please ensure you are fully aware of local emergency and evacuation procedures at your site and special security considerations.
What’s Dodgy?
Your personal safety is important to us. Always keep your workplace safe by recognising dangers in your immediate environment. Always ask yourself “What’s Dodgy?” If something seems “dodgy”, it probably is and could cause harm to you or other people. This can apply to equipment, processes, environments, vehicles and much more. If you feel something is “dodgy”, report it!
